Adodo “Jerry” Johnson is a bilingual freelance journalist, photo-documentarian, and poet with over a decade of experience reporting on faith, culture, and social development across sub-Saharan Africa. Trained as a sociologist, he has served in leadership roles in child and youth holistic development, project execution, and change management with key nonprofit organizations.
His investigative reporting and visual storytelling have been featured in Christianity Today, The Media Project, AnthrowCircus, and other independent platforms. AJ was part of the first cohort of African journalists in the Africa Film Project and contributed on the ground in Togo, to the production of SOLD: Fighting the New Global Slave Trade, a documentary on child slavery, in collaboration with Jody Hassett Sanchez.
He is the founder of the African Child Photo and Film Project in Togo, equipping vulnerable children with storytelling, photography, and journalism skills. As the lead photographer for the Association Espoir Nouveau, he documents stories of hope and resilience among at-risk children and youth.
Beyond the lens and the field, AJ is a passionate writer and poet. His creative work explores themes of justice, identity, freedom, and faith. He is currently developing multiple books and poetry collections that seek to inspire, challenge, and give voice to underrepresented perspectives in Africa and beyond.
